Its time to pack your bags but don’t have a check-list of things to pack for your next surf trip? How many times have you realised, after reaching your destination, that you forgot the sunscreen or your flip-flops at home? Packing for a beach holiday is pretty easy, but the last thing you want is forgetting something basic but essential that you have to buy again! So, we have put together a simple but an effective list of things to pack for your surf trip.

If you’re a beginner joining our surf camp in Taghazout to learn surfing, then your list of things to pack is pretty simple and short.

  1. Sunglasses – these not only make you look cool at the beach, but also protect your eyes from the glare of the sun and the ocean when the sun is overhead. Make sure you buy polarised sunnies with UV protection, so your eyes don’t curse you later.
  2. Flip-flops – you’re either going to be bare-feet or in flip-flops when ready to hit the surf. Shoes are not going to be very useful, so pack only one or two pairs of shoes to wear when necessary.
  3. A Hat – depending on your style, carry a hat to protect you from direct exposure to the sun. While we provide parasols or beach-brollies (umbrellas), a hat is good to have when walking around.
  4. SPF 50 sunscreen – the sun here in Morocco can be harsh, especially if you’re exposed to the sun a lot. Lets face it; your beach holiday means you’ll be at the beach 6-8 hours of the day. So don’t forget a good sunscreen to avoid looking like an overcooked lobster at the end of your Taghazout surf camp holiday. Don’t worry, you’ll still have a great tan to make everyone jealous once you get back home.
  5. Beach Towel or Poncho
A big bulky towel is not ideal, so maybe you can grab one of those micro-fibre towels that are lightweight, fast-drying, and easy to pack. You can also buy a unique but typical Moroccan surf-poncho with Taghazout embroidery that looks super-cool.
  6. Bikini or Shorts – There’s no beach holiday without a bikini for girls. Besides, we do advise girls to wear a bikini under the wetsuit. Boys can be in the jocks or briefs. If you’re a seasoned surfer, and planning to ride your waves independently, then here are the things that you must pack for your surf trip.
  7. Drivers License – our surf guiding package with a scooter rental included is a great option if you want to take a scooter with surf-rack and go surfing on your own. Of course, you’ll meet other surfers, and maybe some locals too, but Moroccan locals are quite friendly and might just join you in the line-up. Be sure to follow the surf etiquette, though.
  8. Surfboard – Choose a surfboard that you feel is appropriate for the surf conditions in Taghazout. There are several surf spots in Taghazout that offer a different style of surfing. From Mini Malibu to a Fish, you can choose your pick and hit the spot of your choice.
  9. Leash – A leash is critical to ensure not just you and the board are safe, but also other surfers in the line-up. Surfing is a high risk sport, and surely, you don’t want to have your free-flowing surfboard hit another surfer. Carry an extra leash or two, so if one breaks, you’ve got a back-up.
  10. Fin Key and extra Fins – A Fin key is essential to ensure your fins are tight when ready to go surfing. If you’re surfing point or reef breaks, you should carry additional fins in case they need to be replaced. Beach breaks don’t usually cause damage to the fins.
  11. Wax and Wax Comb – While you can buy surfboard wax here in Taghazout, you may have a particular brand that you like to use on your surfboard. Carry some extra wax so you’re not stranded without it at the beach. Bring a comb for touch-ups.
  12. Board Shorts, Wetsuit or Rash Guard – Board-shorts are comfortable both, in and our of the water. The weather in Taghazout is pretty nice all day long so you can wear them around. Board-shorts and Rash Guard is usually enough for surfing during summers. During the colder months you may use a wetsuit when going into the water. The water temperature is comfortable during the day, but it can be cooler in the morning.
  13. First Aid Kit – While our surf camp instructors carry First Aid to the beach, we advise all travellers to carry their basic medication and first aid to every holiday. If you’re surfing on your own or with friends, add necessities like bandages for small wounds, antiseptic, a pair of scissors for dressing, in case the need arises.
  14. Travel Insurance – If you are joining our surf camp, we would advise you to have travel insurance that covers water sports like surfing, so you get the medical attention and timely support along with financial assistance in case you you need to visit a doctor or hospital.
  15. Water bottle and some munchies – Surfing is a high-energy sport and can drain your energy levels pretty quickly. While we provide lunch for our guests, its always good to carry a snack if you need a quick bite in between surf sessions.
  16. Camera or GoPro – If you’re thinking of capturing your surfing sessions and make some memories, a waterproof Go-Pro is a great piece of equipment to have that you can attach to the nose before you go surfing.
  17. Wind Sheeter or Jacket – Once the sun goes down, Taghazout evenings can be a little chilly. It’s a good idea to bring a light jacket or wind sheeter to keep you cozy in case you’re chilling under the stars or out and about in the village or Agadir city.
  18. Earplugs – Sometimes the wave can slap you in the ear! Earplugs are good to have to prevent water from going into your ears, especially when its cold salty water.
